Cary was first founded in 1750 as a small settlement known as Bradford’s Ordinary. It didn’t garner any major traction until the construction of the North Carolina Railroad nearly a century later. The community got the name of Cary when Allison Francis Page bought 300 acres of land surrounding the railroad station, renaming the town after a politician he admired.
